A large-scale project made with the heart

Le Paradis Perdu is a residential and leisure area for spending a natural , relaxing and atypical holiday in Béarn , near Orthez .

Jean-Luc developed this 25-hectare site acquired in 1985. Farmer , he created a lake to irrigate the plots of his farm. In 1992, when the farm manager took a walk with Latvians who came to discover the region after the fall of the former USSR, and wondering how to develop this vast area , visitors told him about the attractions of log cabins (in " log ") and the enthusiasm that this type of holiday accommodation arouses. In 1993 the adventure began with the arrival of the first 4 chalets in kit form from Latvia. The construction of the first 4 chalets has started.

It is a success ! Vacationers are delighted, they take advantage of the fishing lake sheltering carp and pike (which does not require a map), walk on hiking trails and go mountain biking … Jean-Luc decides to continue the adventure by building himself- even with close friends and family, 5 new chalets. He trained in log construction , and equipped himself with the necessary tools. In 1999, an occasional contest, a mature red cedar plantation was offered to her, and, improbably, it was located a few dozen kilometers from Paradise Lost, in Arudy !! 5 years have passed, the logs have been peeled, dried in a shed, presented, cut, stacked, marked, dismantled, and reassembled in their defenitive location and thus trunk by trunk , pretty little houses were born.

Today, Paradis Perdu has 9 chalets , arranged in 2 residential areas . Each has its own personality, depending on its location , its disposition in relation to the surrounding nature. It is reached by a carriage road and once installed, you are alone in the world ... There is only the sound of the wind in the trees , birds and the visit of Bombonnette la cochonne , to remind you that civilization does not is not far!

Fallow deer, to feed and discover

We see white and bushy tails appear. Rabbits ? Woods protrude from tall grass and a spotted and not very shy animal approaches us! It is a deer , soon joined by dozens who come to greet us with curiosity.

Strolling near the lake, we can see a large park , or rather an area of nature delimited by a high fence. 4 ha dedicated to fallow deer "at the fallow deer"! Jean-Luc and Valérie join us, they explain to us that these fallow deer come from an exploitation which was to separate from them. With a very large park , requiring maintenance , Jean-Luc made all the arrangements with the NFB to make this crazy adventure possible.

Fallow deer are deer, cousins of deer, which keep their wild instinct even in semi-freedom. It is for this reason that a certificate of capacity was required to welcome these wild-instinct animals to Paradis Perdu.

Looking at them, we are quite sure of their well-being , they appreciate that we give them good corn kernels as a treat that Jean-Luc cultivates (farmer being his first job) and receive respectful attention and astonished by vacationers . It is not every day that such an animal nibbles in the palm of our hands!

---------------------------------------------------------- --------

The visit "to the Fallow deer" depends on several factors: the season (because the antlers of the Fallow Deer are soft and velvety when they grow, they then become hard and pointed in autumn!), The behavior of the hosts (no screams and excitement, you have to be calm because they are wild animals) and the availability of Jean-Luc and Valérie. Don't hesitate to tell them about it when you book. The Fallow Deer are always present, always visible in their enclosure, all year round.

---------------------------------------------------------- --------

At Paradis Perdu, there are also very cute dwarf goats , which graze everywhere, there are ducks and peacocks . An attractive and happy bass course, which gossips, blows, braille and bells!
