  • English
    • Garlin developed in the Middle Ages on the Roman road linking Lescar to Aire-sur-l'Adour and the transhumance path of Saint-Pé.

Appearing from the 10th century, the town grew in importance, with the founding of a bastide in 1302 by Viscountess Marguerite de Béarn. Around the square typical of medieval bastides, the village took off with the cattle market and developed under the impetus of large Protestant and then Catholic families, mainly rue Victor Lefranc.

The bastide was protected by ditches and closed by three gates, to the south, north and east. The Hiton castle testifies to the local influence of the village and the refinement brought to the interior decorations (Louis XV woodwork). The Capuchin convent at the end of the 17th century marks the reconquest of the Catholic religion, celebrated in the 19th century. by the construction of the Saint-Jean-Baptiste church.

A 2 km loop plunges you into the oldest historic heart of the Bastide de Garlin founded in 1302 by Marguerite de Béarn.

Rue Victor Lefranc, the Castle Hiton, the Municipal Park and its remains, the Capuchin convent, the Boulevard des remparts, the old church, the granary Place de la liberté, the Saint-Jean-Baptiste church, you will allow you to discover Garlin over time.

Free visit, accessible to all, all year round. Free.
