Montaut is a village in Béarn, rich in history and heritage.

Montaut was founded in 1308 at the request of the monks, on the initiative of the Viscountess of Béarn, Marguerite de Foix. Its aim was to prevent attacks from the Bigourdans and to develop the region.
Today, it is a typical bastide, with an orthogonal plan, wide and regular streets, and a central square. Its architecture bears witness to its medieval past.
