    • The Asson Zoo, located between Pau and Lourdes, is a very original space for a family day out to discover exotic animals and their habitat. Panthers, small primates of different species, multicolored birds, felines from all continents, zebras, antelopes, turtles and giant bats, dwarf otters, red panda, kangaroos... If the primary vocation of the Zoo d'Asson was botany (you will enjoy contemplating the multitude of plant species present), the animals are today the stars (like Rajah the white tiger) and are sheltered by plants in adequacy with their environment of origin.

On a human scale, the Asson Zoo is ideal for little legs, who can enjoy themselves without tiring, while having fun. The zoo and its landscaped environment are organized into 6 areas, with animals and themes around geography. Animals from Asia, America, Africa and Australia await you in welcoming spaces that promote the animals' privacy while they sleep and their observation when they are active. Curious, the animals are perfectly adapted to their environment, which is 100% oriented towards their well-being. You will also come across dinosaurs, which are presented in 2 high quality dioramas to learn more about their period of appearance, extinction and their lifestyles.

Open since 1964, the Asson Zoo evolves every year to offer new things to visitors, improve animal habitats and offer new educational content. Because we learn a lot of things by visiting the park! First of all with the caretakers, who are the privileged players between the animals and the visitors. They are there to answer questions, ensure the good physical and psychological health of the animals while ensuring a pleasant environment for all. Then thanks to the animations, activities and informative supports present in the park (panels, signs, brochure).

The Asson Zoo offers a multitude of highlights to make the visit unique ! Open all year round, it is a great family outing, to familiarize children with these animals which are very difficult, if not impossible to observe in their natural environment. The vocation of the zoo is as much educational and fun as it is geared towards safeguarding the invaluable genetic heritage that these species represent.

Do not recommend. Animals looked depressed from being in small habitats. Staff didn’t seem very friendly. Everything looked left behind and abandoned.

That's place is a gem. Reasonably priced, lush greenery all around and very healthy looking lively animals. There's lots of interaction with the smaller animals (why doesn't this happen in the UK...
