- City founded in the 11th century, transformed into a Bastide in the 14th, and fortified by the kings of Navarre, Navarrenx, on the paths of St Jacques, is worth the detour. Visit the remarkable fortifications designed by the Italian architect Fabricio Siciliano (the city held by the Protestants was never taken during the wars of religion), the Saint Antoine gate, the powder magazine, the arsenal, the ramparts, so many places to walk very pleasant. you can also end your walk by going down to the old bridge of the 13th, below which flows the Gave d'Oloron. Navarrenx has also been home to the Comptoir des Tabacs for several years. The town is finally a place of vacation and leisure of the first order, fishing (world championship of salmon fishing each year), rafting, and good tables with pilgrim menus....
