Pouey Castle Themed Walks in Aydie

To the north of the Pyrenees, equidistant from the Atlantic Ocean and the Pyrenean mountains, in the MADIRAN appellation located on the borders of Gers, Pyrénées-Atlantiques and Hautes-Pyrénées, is the Château du Pouey vineyard.

The history of Château du Pouey has lasted for four generations. It continues thanks to the fervor of Bastien Lannusse, the youngest winemaker of the appellation . Through his maturity and serenity, he has set himself a challenge for the future of his estate. He took over the reins from his father in 2012 and from his first vintage, his wines have won awards.

Bastien wants these wines to be fruity, silky, expressive and typical of their terroir, with supple tannins. He tries to make a wine that provides pleasure without denigrating the typicality of the terroir. Wines that resemble him, aromatic, gourmet and flattering, that express his attachment to his land, his passion, his pride, and that please above all. For the moment, he exports little. His primary objective is to reach 120,000 bottles, the maximum capacity of the current surface area and facilities. Expanding is not on the agenda in the immediate future. He wants to be able to keep the family spirit for the moment. To develop slowly but surely, like a wine.

As quality begins with the grapes that compose it, Bastien works his vineyard in sustainable agriculture. He benefits from a clay-gravel soil among the best of the appellation and a south-east, south and south-west exposure. Thanks to a lot of observation, few phyto products, organic amendments to promote the development of micro-organisms, the almost total and permanent grassing of the inter-row, the wines of Château du Pouey gain in expression and fruit. In addition, he began this summer the steps for a conversion to Organic Agriculture.
